Une belle aventure

Our new life in 'Les Vosges'

A year on: Looking back on our journey.

I kept meaning to write a post that would somehow depict how I feel now;  A year on…….

When we decided over a year ago to move to a remote French village in Les Vosges, we needed that change.

We had realised that we were very far from our goals, which seemed less and less attainable. Our ideas on life didn’t fit our life style or our jobs, and we really didn’t want that life for our kids. So change was necessary.

Change makes you feel alive. All your senses are awakened. Everything around you is so different. It is an overload to the system at first, then you grow accustomed to your surroundings and the unfamiliar becomes strangly familiar again. You meet new people and your circle of friends grows again. You also discover new ways of doing things.

We wanted a life focused on the family, quality time together is the most important thing. We’ve achieved this and we’ve all benefitted from it.

We dreamt of a spacious home (that’s in the making) in the middle of fields where we could grow our own food and teach the children to discover and respect the earth. I can’t imagine living anywhere else without a certain amount of difficulty.

I didn’t have any specific expectations. I just embraced all the new adventures that came our way all through the year and it has been amazing.

Life should always be enjoyed in the present and we are now able to do just that.

We are still a very very long way off our goal, but it doesn’t matter so much because we’re now on the right track and every daily achievment is celebrated like a little victory on our old life! 🙂
