Our new life in 'Les Vosges'

Clearing the Barn

We always knew that task was going to be difficult but we completely underestimated how much straw there was in the Barn and how difficult it was to move it.

It was going to take us about 6 months with our trailer. Luckily Hubert, one of the local farmer and ‘Maire’s adjoint’ came to the rescue and let us borrow his trailer.

We filled 7 of them.

The kids got to have loads of tractor rides.

Once the straw (most of it anyway) was gone. We thought we may as well take all the rotten floorboards down. Fun Job. Eric was in a destructive mood so we couldn’t stop him. Out came all the floorboards!

Even the kids helped by breaking the very rotten ones.

Another trip to the ‘Decheterie’ and wood for winter with the rest.

We also had to get rid of that ‘thing’. It was a hot water tank under a couple of blankets. I think it probably freezes in the barn in winter.
Matt’s already got ideas on how to use it elsewhere. Solar shower?
